- Located in Lot-et-Garonne, on the border of Lot and Dordogne, the Château de Bonaguil forms a unique ensemble in Europe, of impressive proportions and in a remarkable state of conservation. Lord Bérenger de Roquefeuil (1448-1530) devoted more than 30 years of his life to building this exemplary castle. A true fortress, it was inhabited until the French Revolution.
  
  The town of Fumel bought it in 1860 to protect it from possible disappearance. Since 1862, the site has been classified as a Historic Monument and has since benefited from numerous restoration campaigns. During a guided or independent tour, immerse yourself in the heart of medieval history!
  
  EVENTS: Throughout the year, Bonaguil Castle offers various cultural events in an exceptional setting. In July and August (as well as certain school holiday periods), free thematic activities are offered to children on certain days of the week: treasure hunts, archery, creative and educational workshops, medieval troupes, etc. Program on the website www.chateau-bonaguil.com
  
  HOURS: The castle is open every day from March to October.
  - March and October: Every day from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
  - April, May, June: Every day from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  - September: Every day from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  - July, August: Every day from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  - November - December - January - February: School holidays (all areas) from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. except 12/25 and 01/01

Interesting visit. We spent about 1 hour visiting the castle. There's a route through the castle that you can tour yourselves with an info folder or follow a tour in the French or Dutch language (Monday or Friday). Parked the car for free in the village below and hiked up to the castle.

It is a wonderful castle. All starts with two big parking spots - one at the bottom of the village, one up - close to the castle. Tickets are moderately expensive (€9,5 per person). It takes ca. 1 hour to go through the whole itinerary. Yet, it is another sad example of demolition to the French historical heritage by the vicious French Revolution... Views are quite spectacular both from the top as well as from the village beneath. All in all a very charming experience surrounded by beautiful French countryside.

Beautiful experience we were 2 couples on a day out. We walked up through the castle following the directional arrows. Good information on the boards of each area. Very enjoyable. 9.50 per person...

An amazing chateau perched high on the hill with fabulous views. In ruins, but still enough remaining to see exactly how those who occupied the chateau lived and fought. I loved the lack of naff...
